Thanks for a fantastic week, and a BIG hello to everyone I met

Mike (white legs) Walker

One word - FANTASTIC!

Many thanks to all - on and off stage.

Keep rocking - Chris, Tracey, Simon, Steve (Hastings), Mel and Ian (Telford)

Hi Eddie and all fellow travellers

Just to say we had a fantastic time in Lindos (we've been going for 20 years!). Loved the shows and met some fantastic people at the shows, in the bars and tavernas, on the beach wandering around Lindos and at the Meze night.

Had two weeks there, came back on the Wednesday and saw Think Floyd at the Key Theatre on the Friday! Really kept the whole holiday thing going for just that little bit longer. The show was awesome and it was great to meet up with the band and also some familiar faces - especially the Northampton connection!

We look forward to the next festival!

Hi Elaine,

Congratulations on a fantastic week away and the best concert I have ever been to! I'm attaching a couple of pics that can be added to the official DVD/website or whatever you like. I should explain that Richard Morse is a friend of ours - the picture of him looking extremely pleased with himself was taken straight after Saturday night's concert. The Richard's Rhodies picture will need some further explanation....

9 of Richard's close friends (all regulars from the Chequers pub in Sevenoaks) booked up for the Floydfest and we wanted to do something to mark the ocassion (and embarass Richard!). So, unknown to him, I took the worst photo of Rich that I could find and put it on a t-shirt, well 9 t-shirts actually. Then we arranged to meet Richard in Socrates bar one evening and we all lay in wait wearing our t-shirts. When Richard got there he was suitably embarassed (and quite chuffed I think) and agreed to pose for this picture with 5 of us. We are (from left to right) Colin, Leanne, Julie and Martin with Pete at the back (behind Julie).

thanks again for a great week,

Thought you may enjoy my photos of Think Floyd at FloydFest

Hi everyone!

That is, Keith and Chrissie, Selina and Mike, the Men in Hats, Marion, Paul from Classic R, the really pretty dental nurse and her hunky husband who looked like my brother (spooky), Angela and Mandy, Socrates, Saskia, Leo and Dave (although not nec. in that order), Beth and Andy (I've got some great shots of the Donks and Saskia promised me she'd arrange a donkey rota for all future guests . . . hope you guys are OK xx), not forgetting Brian, Tim and the rest of Cathy's clutch of admirers! (Hows that for a collective noun?) And of course Socrates, Dave and the girls, Saskia, Leo, George, Theo, Pericles, Alberto and everyone in the hotel and Socrates Bar that contributed to a truly lovely time. Oh yes - and the band. Actually, a big hello to Think Floyd and a bigger thank you for all the energy put in to those 2 magical nights. You were so cool, I enjoyed you so much.

I've been so busy since I got back - and the site has been down - that I haven't had a chance before to say this - fantastic time and thanks to everyone, including the many, many kindred souls who's names are not recorded here because I was probably pissed when we met and I've forgotten. It doesn't mean you weren't important.

OK - Who remembers the wheelchair ramps, situated extensively throughout the hotel grounds affording access to all facilities, with a gradient of about 1 in 3? I took the short cut, up out of the dungeon/servants quarters - although, according to Kathy (who had clearly had more opportunity than I to have a reccy in the other 'quarters') we didn't have such a bad deal - what with 2 bedrooms and a separate kitchen. However, I digress. (I yearned for a balcony though, I'd imagined that balcony - sneaking out there for a fag while Kathy was in the shower, watching the sunrise, with a glass in my hand, keeping an eye on the Donkeys. Which, incidentally, was clearly the most interesting thing I did all week, because watering (not feeding - that was Beth and Andy) the Donkeys is the only thing anyone's mentioned!!! Still, it could've been worse..)

Where was I? Oh yes. I was off to the taxi, then to the airport and instead of carrying my bag up the steps and around the path, I took a short cut up the wheelchair ramp. (They'll be hard pushed to get a 4x4 up those ramps) Anyway I slipped and landed on my fingers - pinky and ring, left hand - hadn't had a drop. In agony - but not wishing to antagonise Kathy further, after the barging incident at the fridge when I wondered aloud what we would do with the left-over gin - I struggled round to the taxi, dumped my bag and went to say goodnight and goodbye to the Donks. (I've reassured them; it would be too much of a coincidence for all the animal lovers to arrive in the first week.
Please be reading this Saskia. x)

When I got back to the Hotel gates, the taxi was there, ready to whisk us away and back to reality, head full of images and memories and sounds. Faces. Names - all to be reviewed, remembered, revisited even.
. . Shrug off the faces for now - we've got that trip to the airport.
Back to the bloody UK

There we were - Kathy and I, bags and baggage, taxi and 12 hours of traveling home when we're not quite not really ready to leave. It felt as though everyone else had left days before, rather than during the course of that same day that we had spun pleasantly out 'til midnight with dinner and 'draft' Amstel in 'frosen' glasses at the Medeast. Bags are loaded into the boot with the others - we're sharing this taxi and I'm happy to sit in the back with our co-travelers for the trip back to Rhodes Town and the Airport. Kathy sits in the front.

So, Brian. Forgive me if I seemed a little distant; I was pre-occupied with the Donkeys and the broken fingers, (which I still have strapped up - but healing nicely, thank you)

I'm going over to Kathy's on Sunday with some 'photos and she's threatened me with the video. We'll post something. Isn't it hot?

lots of love to you all, Jane xxxxxxx

Hi Helen
Yes, there are plans but there are some issues with the sound quality that have to be resolved before the go ahead can be given by the band.

Regards - Eddie

I noted that the event was filmed/recorded. Any plans to release a video/DVD/CD? Please???

BRIAN & HEATHER

I wish to advise fellow followers of Thinkos Floydos that the elders Keithos and Christa followers of the Pinkos Floydos were seen joining another tribal celebration following of the Gods of REMus in the grand sportus arena in the territory known as Cardiff in Walos.

They gave their presence away to another wanderer from the Athenian spa called Cathios,(of the genus Cathios and Janosa,) who having finally escaped Brianos, was now back in the arms of Peterus, for this festivity.
However, suffering from the ancient disorder of "namus not rememberus", fluffed her introductions for which Cathios apologises.

Sitting up in "The Gods" of this huge arena where the sound of REMus was too loud and very distorted, Cathios remains an unfaltering follower of the music of "Thinkos Floydos"

But seriously .......I was so disappointed that the site crashed on returning home and I was unable to write back immediately my thanks to everyone involved in what was a memorable week. (yes I do remember it all!).
I think it has all been said, and so eloquently by others , So it can only be left for me to say quite simply THANK YOU.THANK YOU ALL... performers and fellow travellers.

The Band, Socrates, Dave,Eddie,Fellow followers of the Dental profession, Mike and Selina, Keith and Christine, Paul ,Saskia, and everyone at the athena or socrates bar. I am sorry if I have not mentioned you in person.

I have already booked to see Think Floyd at Truro in September, so Peter can see what he missed.
See you all next year or sooner.... Kathy ( and Jane) kathylawrence@btconnect.com

Awesome show, holiday was the best. Hope to go back again next year.

Oh and by the way, much better than Australian Floyd.

Dean, Keryn, Nathan, Rob.

Hope your wrist is better Elaine! Many thanks to Eddie and Elaine for organising the whole thing.

P.S. When are the band coming to Bridgend, S. Wales?

Hi Eddie & Elaine

Just a quick note to thank you for organising a great gig in Greece in spite of the wind.

Floyd Fest – My Way

And now the end is here
And we faced the shortened curtains
My friends I’ll say it clear
The week was great, of this I’m certain

Regrets, Cathy’s had a few
But then again too many to mention
She did what she had to do
She even brought Brian to our attention

But the biggest question is
Cathy, did Brian get his way

The band they were great
The final encore won’t be forgotten
Despite the blustery wind
They pulled it off with such precision

Yes, there were times
I’m sure you knew
You bit off more dust
Than you could chew

But through the wind and swirling sand
You ate it up and spat it out
You faced it all and you stood tall
And did it your way

Dentists, we had two
And a nurse thrown in for good measure
And if the donkeys needed food
We had Jane, our own treasure

Alcohol was consumed in large amounts
Mostly by the boys from Grimsby
And lets not forget The Essex crowd
And classic rock Paul
They partied their very own way

Chauffeur driven every day
Words mixed each and every way
And more, much more than this
The Athena Gang Drank all day.

Thanks Eddie and gang for a great week

Mike , Selena ,Keith and Chris

Hi Guys,
Many, Many, Many thanks for a great week in Lindos.
Although we where on the 7 and a half hour delayed flight from Manchester,
the wait was well worth it - I had a constant smile on my face all week!

I like the wind machine on the Friday night ;-)
and the laser on the Acropolis was awesome!

We met some great people while we stayed at the Athena in Lindos,
and it was great to talk to the band around the pool.
The question on everyone's lips - when is next years - I want to book my place NOW!

The attached picture is me (Mike) with Steve and Rick taken on the Sunday night meal.

Thanks
Mike.

Just one question

- are you gonna do it again next year?

it was fabulous!

Hi All

Thought you ought to share an article I came across in today's edition of Archeology Today. It makes exciting reading. Please do read it, as it concerns Floydfest.

Amazing discoveries of Athenian culture on Rhodes - from our correspondent in Lindos

Some amazing discoveries have been unearthed at Lindos on the island of Rhodes relating to a ceremony called 'Floydfest'. It throws new light on Athenian culture and a hitherto unknown empire stretching to Britain (Britos).

At a yet unknown time, more than 300 disciples of the goods of poetry and music known as Pinkos Floydos, massed on the island the share their ceremony with the local inhabitants. These disciples travelled more than 2,000 miles to see their high priests, Thinkos Floydos. The ceremony was enjoyed over several days, but specifically on two nights.

We know from manuscripts, that the high priests were four men from the areas of Nottingos, Sevenoka, Lewishamos and Peterbros. We also know their names: Lewistedes, Richos, Rikos and Stephenos. They were much praised as great performers of the poetry and music handed down to them from the previous generation.

It is assumed that the ceremony involved moon worship, for pictures show many acolytes wearing singlets adorned with a picture of a Dark Side of the Moon. Surrounding the moon was a great Wall with a gap, through which sacrificial Animals could walk, accompanied by Pipers at the Gates of Dawn. They also venerated Relics. The ceremony was obviously exacting and exciting, for the priests and acolytes had a Division Bell. This was to prevent them all from becoming overexcited and having a Momentary Lapse of Reason or entering a stasis called Umma Gumma.

The ceremony was obviously to call to their gods to come, for they also practised much poetry and music, collectively translated as Wish You Were Here. There was much mystery also, for there is talk of a Saucerful of Secrets and even More. The goddess Venus may have also been worshipped, for there is mention of an Atom Heart Mother although they were told not to Meddle in case Venus become Obscured by Clouds.

We are not sure where the actual ceremony was held, save there is a great Acropolis on the hill overlooking Lindos Bay. There is also, next to the village, an amphitheatre. However, along from Lindos, at St Paul's Bay, there is a levelled area next to a modern sports arena where there is evidence of temporary structures having been built and nearby, burnt ground where food and nectar may have been distributed.

The ceremonies were organised at the request of local people; one called Socrates and the second Davides. We do not think the former was the original great Greek philosopher, whilst the latter had settled in the area from the far-flung province of Scotia.

Of the 300 plus travellers, most were quartered in the town of Lindos in local tavernas and hostelries. Not much is known of these persons yet, but excavated discoveries on a hillside overlooking the town has provided evidence of an Athenian Spa where Thinkos Floydos stayed, along with some of their followers. It is here, that the search has shed more light on the Floydfest.

Apparently there was a Spartan guard from Essicos who had special tunics of three-quarter length trousers, singlets and white hats. They were storytellers of comedy, but more importantly, wandered the countryside searching for suitable places in the local community to eat. However, it was obviously more important to look for liquid refreshment in the great heat. They obviously overdid their task, especially one called Martinos, who spent at least one night in a semi-conscious state in the spa area.

The disciples and acolytes took great care of themselves, for they had two daughters of Hipocrates who specialised in dentistry and who were named Mariona and Cathios; who also had a nurse. It is assumed that they were there to ensure that the performers did not suffer infections of the mouth and throat that would affect their recitals at the festival. Mariona had a secondary duty, this being to organise the Spartan guard from Essicos and administer libations to them, if they overdid their wine tasting duties - which apparently was quite often.

Cathios also had other duties, which included wandering amongst the populous during the late evening, to record the attributes of the local men folk. However, in this task she was much troubled by two called Timor and Brianos. In particular, Brianos followed her around and tracked her like a troublesome puppy. Cathios was lucky to have a travelling companion, Janosa, whose duty was to keep Cathios to her task and not to be sidetracked. This apparently was very difficult for she herself was also troubled by the local men folk. Janosa also looked after the donkeys, which we must assume, were there to help carry the equipment used in the performance of the festival. She lived in the servants quarters and each morning could be seen striding amongst the donkeys with water and feed.

Also present was Mikos and his wife Selina from the province of Manchestides. Mikos was a provider of luxury chariots to important persons around his province. However, at Lindos he was a wanderer who scoured the byways looking for routes and watering holes. He also doubled as a storyteller and poet and assistant to his wife Selina, a linguist. Selina recorded many Athenian words which have come to modern use. There is the birthing procedure she recorded as hysterectomos, which the Romans later changed to caeserianus. Also a water irrigation system colestema, although this may be a confusion with the modern water collection procedure. It would be that the confusion was caused by Selina's avid tasting of the local wine.

There was a darker side to the moon ceremony, this being the training of children and young adults in the Athenian mastery of warfare at sea. A warrior from Cymros, much revered for his encounters with super furry animals, was one of the trainers, assisted by Carlos, a haulier from Gravesenda in Kenthos. They taught the youngsters in the art of boarding and capsizing opponents vessels, using inflated skins for practice; this training became know as the 'Battle of the Lilos'. The two warriors were further assisted by the Spartan Guard in throwing ball-shaped missiles.

There was also a logistics expert present from the eastern province of Russos, who was accompanied by his handmaiden, a native of that province. Not much is known of her except that she found it all complex and confusing; subsequently the expert spent large amounts of time away from her, joining in the ribaldry.

Paulos, a much-travelled writer, was also present to report the proceedings in publications for the masses back home in Britos. He was also charged with the task of scouring the island to seek out an elusive person who had apparently won a coveted prize to attend the ceremony. Alas this task proved to be fruitless.

A beautiful young handmaiden named Saskia, supplied refreshments to the travellers, but also performed what we can only assume is a local ritual to the god Poseidon. At regular intervals she would break from her duties, disrobe (partially, unfortunately) and dive into the clear waters of the Athenian Spa. Saskia also performed duties of chastisement to the local artisans who had not fully supplied some of the accoutrements to the Spa. It became a daily ritual to see these things arriving whether it be parasols, chairs, tables or ill-fitting curtains. The most appreciated later delivery was that of a great urn fitted with a pump which contained the local amber nectar.

There were also present four gentlemen from the fishing province of Humberdos. They were present to record the ceremony and brought with them 'a wondrous selection of devices' to capture the images for posterity. It is hoped that these records will be uncovered and added to the material unearthed so far and add to the record of this great event. Whether this record will be usable is dependent upon their state of sobriety as they were renowned amongst the travellers as great imbibers of the local nectar. One of their number would also entertain around the spa waters with his own musical instrument, adding to the general ribaldry.

There were two elder citizens, Keithos and Christa, present who had been followers of Pinkos Floydos from their original period in the previous generation. Their duties appeared to be to record these events in manuscript form and on stone tablets. Much of this material has been used in this report. One of the elder citizens, Keithos, was muttered about as a heretic, for daily he wore singlets extolling other gods and muses of poetry and music. However, at the appropriate time, he relented and donned the same singlet as others, the one depicting a great wall surrounding the moon.

From the elder citizen's writings, we extract three which act as an overall summary of the event:

On the proceedings: "Many lands have I visited over time and many peoples have I met. This event however, will forever be recorded in my mind as a great and joyous happening"

On the ceremony of poetry and music: "At many times on the two evenings, I closed my eyes and it was if the gods themselves had come to play to us"

On the ending of the ceremony: "We all gathered to say our farewells and travelled homeward by various routes, feeling comfortably numb"

Postscript: We can only conjecture why the ceremony took place. Perhaps it was to implore the gods to return once more amongst us. Magically - it is recorded - exactly seven days after closure of this ceremony, the gods did indeed appear - in the Brittos city of Londos - to play to assembled masses around the known world.

Regards,
Keith and Christine

Dear Eddie & Elaine

What a fantastic week we both had at the FloydFest. The concert was just awesome. I had never seen Think Floyd before but were very familiar with all the original songs, and quite frankly the group just blew me away. Their presence on stage was magnificent, the sound was terrific and the lightshow was superb, - no doubt even better if their backdrops hadn't blown away in the first nights unexpected gust of wind!

Having seen Pink Floyd live in a similar situation I can honestly say that Think Floyd performed just as good. In fact I preferred their (TF) version of 'In The Flesh', with Lewis doing the main vocals.

All the band played outstandingly well and they had such a 'big' sound at this gig (St Pauls Bay, Lindos), far better than a CD had previously heard.

Individually what can you say about them - Richard on lead guitar, knew every note and sound that Pink Floyd had ever created and played them all perfectly, as did Rick on keyboards. Steve never missed a beat on the drums (which sounded exactly as they should) and Lewis on bass and acoustic guitar was awesome, as was female vocalist Hayley's solo. I am still tingling. What I thought was so good about the band, is that they created this sound outside live in a festival situation and it was as good as Pink Floyd in the recording studio. Obviously the sound and lighting guys have to take some real credit here too.

As for promotion, there wasn't a single remote place on the island that didn't have a poster on it - I know, I drove over the whole of Rhodes that week, even remote mountain villages!

The after-show BBQ was a great idea, it was great to get a chance to meet the band and other fans. So sorry to hear about Lewis's guitar getting smashed by that gust of wind.

I do hope you can do it again next year as I want to be there - preferably a little later in summer - when hopefully a touch cooler and darker earlier for the lightshow!

PS. Lindos - what a wonderful place.

Hope you all enjoy the pix & hope it brings back some memories.

Adrian and Gill.
